US
Citylife is an innovative community charity working
with children, young people and families living in deprived inner-city
housing areas of Wester Hailes and surrounding neighbourhoods in
west Edinburgh.
Background
Citylife was established in 1996. Since then we have worked with
over 1,100 inner city children and young people aged 4-19, and been
recognised by many for the valuable contribution we bring to the
community. In 2001 we became a registered Scottish Charity. Our
Scottish Charity number is SC 031375.
Mission statement
To be an agent for purposeful, beneficial and long-term change amongst
inner city communities via a primary focus of caring for and befriending
children, young people and their families.
Aims
- To build self confidence, hope and purpose into the lives of
disadvantaged inner-city children and young people.
- To esteem children and young people as valuable individuals
and help them reach their full potential.
- To demonstrate unconditional acceptance to children, young people
and their families regardless of status, background or religion.
- To offer the best activities possible and make them accessible
to low income households by providing services and transport for
free.
Outcomes
- To provide an imaginative, cost effective and distinctive range
of services helping the individual to experience the highest quality
of life possible.
- To act with professionalism and integrity and to demonstrate
the benefits of Christian values to children and young people
facing complex social problems.
- To be committed to the development and support of staff and
volunteers in order that they perform fulfilling and effective
team roles and ensure we provide excellent services for children
and young people.
Founding Director
Helene King, the Founding Director of Citylife has over 30 years
experience of working with inner city children and young people.
In 2000 she was the overall winner of the BT ChildLine award for
her work helping inner city children in Edinburgh and setting up
Citylife.

know God's love for ourselves and to give it away to those who have
